Top 5 Tips for Travel Photography

May 21, 2018 by admin

Any place you visit has a unique set of characteristics, therefore, to make your photography good and evergreen, try to snap all the attributes of that place. Photography has a weird way of bringing back old emotions and memories. The very sensations trigger and make us feel right at the moment. For that to happen, it’s important to think and feel while taking photos. You have to see through the layers of perspectives in order to make out the best of your photo-expedition. To make your pictures look more intriguing browse the internet for best photobooks and get the most out of your albums. Here are my expert tips to enrich your experience:

Rise and Shine

Wake up early in order to benefit most from the natural light. The soft and warm morning light creates incredible photos. The hours before the sunrise are called the ‘blue hours’ due to the quality of light at that time. During the day, it’s hard to capture the best of shots and it’s just not the right time for travel photography. The evening hours, also known as the ‘golden hours’ just before and after sunset, are considered to be very rich in the lighting aspect of photography. One more thing, if you are camping on your photo-expedition, you might want to learn a few tips just to avoid the adventure going wrong!

Do your Research

Knowing about the place inside out is a must. This can help you figure out what sights to cover. Scout the internet for posts and reviews about the place to get an idea about it. Try to get knowledge about the type and mode of photography required for the place. Just to be sure, create a list of images already captured by photographers and work on your creativity to reproduce them in an astonishing way.

Know the Locals

Communicating with strangers can be hard. Breaking the ice would bring a host of opportunities to photograph them. Learn to say hello and smile frequently. A smile can make you go a long way in a foreign environment. Learn some phrases like “can I take a snapshot of you?” in the local language just to make it comfortable for the people to get photographed.

Rule of Thirds

Balanced compositions and the effective use of the Rule of Thirds reflect the expertise of the photographer. The essence is to break the frame into a 3×3 grid and place a significant part of the photos in the grid to create a pleasant image. You can also turn on the ‘grid’ feature in the DSLR or on your smartphone camera to catch better images by aligning the points of interest and their placement perfectly on the grid.

Remember when to put the Camera Away

Often when you get immersed in the beauty of nature, it is hard to resist the urge of not capturing it. Taking a break from the action and just relaxing will make you enjoy the moment. Taking hundreds of photos might make you miss out on some other attractions or happenings on the way. Living the moment can be serene – after all, photography can just be a window to it. Let your mind wander away and break yourself free just to enjoy the view with your eyes, not the lens!
